Driving Top AND Bottom Line Benefits from Lean Data Management

By Jim O'Farrell on March 30, 2015

Over the last five years, I’ve had the opportunity to discuss and analyze how Winshuttle brings efficiencies to thousands of SAP users, whether they’re in IT, line of business – management or knowledge workers. Many great stories exist about the tremendous time savings, process efficiencies and business results obtained in managing mass data management e.g. master data, finance processes like journal updates, order-to-cash, sales order maintenance, procure to pay, human resources and a multitude of other processes. All of these efficiencies translate into cost savings and bottom line benefits for their company, providing extensive justification to do more SAP process innovation and improvement. What’s getting real and exciting is a powerful new top line revenue recognition benefit emerging with SAP customers. These companies are leveraging Winshuttle’s lean data management platform’s capabilities to accelerate data collection, validation and movement providing market/revenue advantages over their competition, as evidenced by the following:

Recently, Lake Forest, Illinois, based – Pactiv/Reynolds Consumer Corporation (fyi, the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of food packaging and foodservice products – supplying every major foodservice retailer and distributor in North America, including McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Starbucks and Burger King) had a challenge creating data about their packaging materials fast enough to meet seasonally driven market demands for “like-item” copies of packaging materials.

For example, a two week window exists to take advantage of manufacturing drink cups highlighting the Super Bowl teams offered at major food & beverage retailers. The aforementioned challenge here is that the material creation process in SAP took four weeks to create the data in the system for these cups. Netting it out, there was lost opportunity and associated loss of potential revenue.

In this case study, read how the company leveraged Winshuttle’s lean data management platform to reduce the amount of time it took to respond to these opportunities by over 50%, while recognizing millions in productivity efficiencies. The effect is now BOTH bottom line – expense savings associated with better data, time savings associated with data management processing – and top line – an increase of double the revenue associated with their “like item copy” material creation process, due to Winshuttle’s accelerated data collection, validation and movement capabilities.

If you are interested in this topic, I am happy to share ideas I’ve gleaned from my interviews and research relating to leveraging streamlined data collection, validation and movement – and how it could positively affect your “top and bottom line.” Please feel free to comment on this blog or send a note to jim.ofarrell@winshuttle.com.
