A New Perspective: Sapphire Now ASUG Annual Conference
By Sandi Ateser on May 24, 2019
The 2019 Sapphire Now ASUG Annual Conference had a lot to offer. As a first-time attendee of this event, I was impressed by the breadth and depth of topics of discussion from the 1700+ sessions, and daily keynotes with guest speakers from SAP leadership, SAP customers, and celebrities. They even brought in Bear Grylls & Sandra Bullock to talk about leadership! Let’s not forget the performance by Lady Gaga at the close of the conference. With long days, countless interesting conversations and aching feet, Sapphire didn’t disappoint! The knowledge gained by hearing challenges tackled and results gained by attending sessions and networking with others was priceless.
If you were not able to make the trek to Orlando, Florida, here is a summary of what went on.
The opening keynote was led by SAP’s CEO, Bill McDermott, who talked about challenges and opportunities in the experience economy. In fact, SAP tried something new this year by creating a satellite conference that solely focused on this topic. Watch Keynote: Winning in the Experience Economy
Another interesting keynote was given by SAP’s Hasso Plattner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. His focus was on how Enterprise Management and in-memory technology will lead the charge of creating an Intelligent Enterprise and to help with this initiative, new SAP acquisition, Qualtrics, will help to deliver on this promise. This year, a new line of business joined the Winshuttle team in February, Enterworks, and for the first time at Sapphire. Together, we had a steady stream of visitors to our booth and networking receptions where the team discussed with and provided demos to attendees from 690 companies and 58 countries who were interested in Multi-Domain Experience Management for SAP (MxM), how to automate SAP business processes using RPA, and to learn more about best practices for migrating to S/4HANA.
All three topics, S/4HANA, RPA, and Customer Experience dominated the conference keynotes and sessions, considering these topics are key initiatives for many organizations. In particular, there is a looming 2025 deadline to move legacy instances of SAP ECC to S/4HANA, so it makes sense that this topic was popular among attendees. RPA was also on the minds of attendees as organizations realize that automation drives out inefficiencies, saves money, and improves reporting that will help leaders make better-informed decisions.
Our team hosted an RPA session “Why It’s Critical to Have an RPA Solution for SAP in Your Portfolio,” where both Kristian Kalsing, VP of Product & Solutions and Bob Glitch, Sr. Solutions Engineer discussed the various RPA tools that are available and how to take a portfolio approach to an RPA deployment.
In addition, there were four Winshuttle customers who talked about how they leveraged Winshuttle solutions in various ways.
- Smith & Nephew covered how they were able to transform processes and improve compliance across their business.
- Patterson walked the audience through how they reduced material creation by 60% for their CSR team.
- Leprino Foods talked about how they rolled out Winshuttle’s near real-time dashboard report in one week.
- Puget Sound Energy’s Journey Implementing an Integrated Work Management Solution
If you haven’t already, be sure to attend next year to see the latest in how to transform your organization.
