Principal Product Owner

Position summary

Senior Product Owner is Strategic agile development role that represents the markets and the user community (Voice of the customer) and is responsible for working with both the overall market and users to determine what features will be in the product release. Act as the liaison between the development team and customers, the senior product owner must collaborate closely with both groups to ensure there is a clear understanding of what features are needed in the product or solutions to realize the market driven roadmap. Because there may be a variety of type of customers and users, the senior product owner must have a firm understanding of the market needs and trends, business domain and the varying needs of different types of users.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Working closely with Product Management to develop and execute product roadmap.
  • Define the features for internal stakeholders around changes and new features in accordance with the market needs.
  • Prioritize the features of the product or solutions. Create and prioritize the User stories from the backlog so that the team knows which stories to work on during the sprint.
  • Adjusting the features and priority as needed after each sprint or iteration.
  • Keeping customers or users apprised of status and continually obtain their feedback as development progresses via sprint output demonstrations, individual conversations and multi-customer advisory meetings while accepting or rejecting work results.
  • Scheduling and defining market, customer, partner and internal stakeholder demonstrations around product capabilities including the creation of artefacts that support the use cases and customer focused scenarios. Participation in cross-functional product and feature team discussions and demonstrations, both formal and informal, to ensure that proposed solutions meet customer requirements and commitments.
  • Uses broad professional expertise and unique knowledge, to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective way.
  • May direct subordinates and delegate tasks to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies.

  • Experience of Working on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility
  • Creates and maintain internal and external formal networks with clients, vendors, functional departments, key in client presentations/company representation
  • Knowledge and Understanding require to exercises judgment in selecting methods, creative techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead large customer facing business solution projects
  • Proven ability to understand the impact of technology on business challenges, processes, and efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to explain benefits of a technical product / solution to a client in relation to the client’s business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work interdependently and to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to translate technical information into easy to understand language for customers


  • BE / B-Tech or MBA with 8+ years’ experience – 4+ years in product management experience, 4+ years working with enterprise software launches.
  • Experience with an SAP, Microsoft SharePoint and Excel is a plus.
