Product Design Manager – UX

Reports to: VP, Product Management

Position summary

The Product Design Manager is a user experience professional with a passion for delivering a great customer experience and a vocal customer advocate to help us formulate and validate our user experience designs. In this role, you will utilize your existing knowledge, experience and appropriate usability testing to assess the quality of existing designs, validate proposed product enhancements, develop mock-ups, prototypes and make recommendations on where to focus R&D effort to improve the overall customer experience. You will work closely with a cross-functional product, architecture, development and documentation team and hold overall responsibility for optimizing the user experience.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Planning, scoping and conducting iterative usability assessments of upcoming releases as they move from concepts to the final design
  • Determine appropriate research/assessment methods and procedures on new assignments including focus groups, formative usability lab studies, site visits, benchmark studies, online surveys and polls, etc. depending on study requirements, time and resources
  • Analyze data, preparing reports, stakeholder presentations, video clips, and story boards into actionable presentations to the product team. These recommendations should result in a reduction of usability issues and in quantifiable improvement ratings and conversions.
  • Work with Product Management, UX / UI developers, R&D, and Test teams to influence product decision-making and integrate insights of the user studies into product specifications
  • Serve as a user experience champion within Winshuttle to broaden general knowledge and acceptance of user-centered design and research practices
  • Serve as user expert resource between departments on detailed product and design information

Knowledge

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Established experience in enterprise software industry as a User Researcher, UX specialist or similar
  • Proven track record designing and conducting usability studies end-to-end, including analyzing and reporting results
  • Self-starter with a proven track of record turning research results into actionable design deliverables, including wireframes and design principles
  • Strong technical aptitude to understand technological challenges of some of the products and work successfully with highly technical product teams
  • Hands-on experience in modern JavaScript frameworks, Visual Design, Web Applications and Design – HTML, CSS, Angular desired.

Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience in Usability Engineering role or, a combination of software development and Usability roles
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Behavioral Science, Design or related disciplines
  • Master’s Degree in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Usability Engineering, Cognitive Psychology or related field is desired
