SQL Database Administrator


Reports to: Manager, Cloud Operations

Position summary

Winshuttle is searching for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join our Cloud Operations team. The Ideal candidates will have strong SQL Server skills, troubleshooting, and query building skills, and ability to work across various technical teams supporting our customer facing hosted environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including all phases of database administration, with emphasis on security, performance availability and troubleshooting, sustainability, database tuning, analytical problem solving and partnering closely with the Engineering Professional Services teams.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Database maintenance, security, performance tuning and analysis, monitoring and query tuning.
  • Manage SQL Server databases across hosted production and pre-production environments.
  • Upgrading SQL Server software to new versions, applying service packs and patches, and migrations to new configurations and platforms as needed.
  • Creating DB Maintenance plans, rebuild/reorganize indexes & performing integrity checks.
  • Optimizing and scaling the SQL Server environments
  • Write and optimize TSQL – queries, views, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Create technical documentation and knowledge base articles to facilitate rapid troubleshooting and issue resolution.

  • SQL Server 2008R2/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019
  • Knowledge in supporting/configuring SQL Azure (PaaS) and SQL AWS (RDS) services
  • Proficient with SQL Management Studio, Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Scheduling jobs with SQL Server, Performance Monitor
  • Knowledge of a programming or scripting language (VB, Javascript, Powershell)
  • Knowledge of data models, technical architecture, database structures, system interfaces
  • IT security best practices


  • Minimum of 5 years Database Administration experience with administering and supporting multiple SQL Server instances in a hosted/SaaS environment
  • Database performance monitoring, tuning procedures, and disaster recovery scenarios
  • Experience working directly with other technical teams in resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining hosted/SaaS SQL Server solutions
  • Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery like Replication, Log shipping, Mirroring and Clustering.
  • Experience managing SQL Services in Azure and AWS a plus
